Let’s talk about Immigration

I am not sure how many people will read this or how many people read my BLOG any longer but I have to put this out there for anyone who wants to read it. Remember this is just Craig’s opinion and opinions are like a**h***s, every body has one and they are all full of…well you all know what they are full of. I have been reading a great deal in the Conservative Chronicle (CC)and other conservative news papers, (which arrives here in Iraq one to two weeks behind the issues that are spoken about but there are several that will continue to be current no matter how late the paper) about the GWOT (Global War on Terror) and IMMIGRATION.

Now I take a hard line on several things about the United States of America and those two or three of you who read this wacky BLOG know that and what they are. So I will not go deep into that but I will say this, I am all for AMERICA FIRST LAST AND ALWAYS!!!! Would you like to know why? Mostly it has to do with the fact that America has done more good in this world than evil. In our zeal to do good we have some times done wrong but with the best of intentions.

A good example of this is the rebuilding Europe following WWII. We gave and gave to the governments of the countries of war torn Germany, France, and Italy among others and that caused an almost decade long delay in the recovery of those country’s economy’s and rebuilding efforts. Not that they were not grateful but we actually delayed their emergence as problem solvers and innovators in their magnificent and rapid rise to their former glory nay they have surpassed that former glory. (Thank you Ann Coulter, she did the research on that I just read her book)

So we have made some mistakes in the past and I for one am glad that we do not teach our children that Americans have always done the right thing but have, when they realized that they were wrong, repented and changed for the better. In repenting and trying to do better we have done some remarkable things. We freed slaves after over four years of war. ( I know the War between the States or as I like to call it, the War of Northern Aggression was not all about slavery.) It took a Constitutional amendment but we still did it and it was the correct thing to do. Now I will move on I believe that I have made my point.

I have read several very well thought out arguments on immigration that are in keeping with that same spirit of wanting to do the right thing. Mr. Paul Greenberg CC June 14, 2006 page five, makes a very good case for the President’s plan to allow those who will to become citizens of this country and I think that his point is valid. But there is a MAJOR flaw in the thinking that goes along with his case. Mr. Greenberg states that the President is “trying to find a way for Amercian society to assimilate the millions of Hispanic immigrants now in this country without papers, many of whom have been here for years, put down roots and are raising their children and grandchildren as Americans.” Paul I will agree that those who are here and are attempting to teach their children how to be Americans, with all of rights and responsibilities that go with being Americans as well as the history and pride that come with being an American they should be allowed to stay and prosper just as any other citizen.

But Paul and others who think that easy citizenship will make these people appreciate America and all of the blessings and responsibilities that go with it are sadly mistaken. Again let me say that those immigrants Hispanic or other wise who are teaching their children the true meaning of being an American SHOULD stay and continue to make a home and life for themselves and their families. But there are others who’s goals are not so lofty. They are the ones who’s sole purpose in life is to take from not give to America. Who are they? Who are we 2?

We as Americans have grown up in an education system that tells us that we are a Democracy. That is patently false. Our form of government is a Constitutional Republic. We are the first in history. Yes the Romans had a republic for a few centuries but they did not have a document like our Constitution. Eventually the Roman government became a dictatorship. We are not as close to a dictatorship as the liberal press would have us think. President George W. Bush is not going to become Emperor George the first. He does not have that kind of mind set and neither does the United States Army. It would take the power of the Army backing him to cause this to happen. I also do not believe that the President wants that to happen. So moving on. Does our form of Government make us who we are as Americans? No.

Our form of government helps define us but does not completely make us who we are. Maybe it is a cultural thing. What is a culture and how is it made? A culture at its base is the collective beliefs of the people of the community. They do not have to all agree on every point but they do have to agree on the basic premises. What are some of the basics that Americans believe? Equal rights under the law, freedom of movement and property, and believing or not in God. We do not believe in “forcing” our “religion” on others but we do believe in the free exercise thereof. Where do these ideas that Americans believe in come from?

Do they come from our constitution? Our founding fathers were brilliant men and they thought far ahead into the future when they were making up the document upon which we base all of our laws. But they were not born brilliant. They may have had the innate intelligence to learn quickly and retain well what they learned but they were not born with all of the knowledge that they had when they wrote the Constitution of the United States. Americans believe in right and wrong and they get that from Mom and Dad. So Mom and Dad give us our culture? Maybe, just maybe we are getting down to it.

All Empires and Nations of strength in the past had strong families. Mother and Father raising children. Not a village Senator. Now I am going to go another way. Mom and Dad may raise the children and raise them well. But then the children are sent off to school to learn about reading writing and arithmetic along with history science and the others. BUT when the school tells the children that they do not have to listen to their parents what happens then? What happens when you take children to church and teach them that God created the universe and all that is in it and then you send them to school and they are taught that the world evolved? Have you not just created a mental quandary for the child? So culture is maintained or destroyed through the education system of the community.

So where did our founders and their parents and theirs and so forth get the values that the passed on from generation to generation? They did not get them from the Constitution. That is believe it or not a secular document. BUT the ideas that are in that great Document come from another source: The Bible. We are a great nation because our founders knew this book so well that many of them could quote the entire book chapter and verse. Yes that may sound astounding but there were at least two I can name who could. Noah Webster, who wrote the first dictionary and John Jay, first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. These men were just two that I have learned could do this. Please don’t ask me where I read it but I did a while back. However if you want to know what the founders really intended when they wrote the Constitution you should read the Federalist Papers. Look them up in the net and you will find them.

So what makes us who are. What gives us our optimism, our sense of Justice, fairness, willingness to die for freedom even others freedom? The foundation of our country: The Bible. We are a moral and religious people let no one fool you or tell you different. “Our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people it can govern no other.” John Adams. The Supreme Court ruled for over 150 years that America was established as a Christian Nation. Until 1947 there was NEVER a separation of church and state. Our churches or the “Body of Christ” was never in charge of the government of the United States. The “Body of Christ” made up the population of the United States and they were and still are a major player in the politics of the nation. Therefore there were moral and religious people in control of the nation and during that time the nation prospered as no other in history.

Thomas Jefferson said that the religion of the Nation is Christianity and that the people should vote Christians as their rulers. A good definition of who Christians are is people who believe in the following: We the People of the United States in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish the Constitution of the United States of America. Christians want to be E Pluribus Unum, from many people come one. (More perfect Union) Have less crime. ( established Justice) Domestic Tranquility (when was the last Christian riot in the streets?) Protection of their rights and land. (Defense) Work their businesses, take vacations safely, and have safe places for their children. (General Welfare) Be able to pass these things on to our children. (Secure the Blessings of Liberty) BUT we must be willing to give up our own selfish desires at some points in time to defend these Blessings.

We are not perfect as Christians (see the rape of Jerusalem AD 1066? I am unsure of the date). My point is we have done things in our past that we needed to repent of and for the most part we have done that. The difference between Christianity and religion is Christianity is a RELATIONSHIP with God through His son Jesus not a set of rules of do’s and don’ts to get us into heaven. I know this was long and those who stuck with me thank you.

Who are we?

Who are we as Americans? What makes us the country that we are now and have been for the past 230 years? Why are we still a free nation with all of the Liberalism, Pornography, Crime, Violence against Children and Women, and a national debt that is greater than almost all of the rest of the worlds economies combined? What makes it special to call ourselves Americans? When you say that you are from America people from other countries know you are talking about being a citizen of the United States. Why? Why do they not ask: “Where in the America’s? North America like Canada? South or Central America such as Guatamala or Brazil?” No people know that you are speaking of the United States of America. Again I will ask: Why?

Americans by and large understand that they are a free people with many rights. We do not erode the rights of our citizens and we are even now attempting to extend those rights to the bloody and violent animals that we have in custody for committing acts of slaughter on our shores and around the world. We believe first and foremost in the rights of the individual. We punish violators of those God given rights under the crime of Civil Rights violations. Do we really want those beasts to have those rights as non-citizens? Not in my opinion but then if you are paying attention to what you are reading right now you know my opinion all ready. Do they deserve a trial? Yes just like the Nazi butchers at Nuremberg; give them a fair trial and then dish out the punishment that the crime deserves but no time off for good behavior.

But do these rights make us who we are as a people? I do not believe so. We have the right to keep and bear arms a right written by Jimmy Madison and then ratified by his fellow delegates at the Constitutional Convention. Does this keep us free? Maybe but that is not what makes us a unique nation. The British have taken the right of gun ownership away from their citizens and by and large the British people are still free with an honest government that does not oppress them. That is what James Madison meant when he wrote: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ” To keep the government honest the people were to be armed if they so choose.

On a side note I have read some books on the ancient history of Great Britain lately and I find them to be a race of people whom I am truely proud to be related. Beginning with King Authur’s father the people of Britain, while struggling some times, have had a truly great monarchy. Not always but who can say we have always had good rulers. That is another point. We do have rulers in America we just elect them. We give them the power through elections to “rule” over us and make the laws by which we must live.

For the Hard of Heart

They settle down in seats of cloudsA man named Martin shouts out proud
“I have a dream!” and once he did

The Newcomer said, “Your dream still lives.”
Groups of soldiers in blue and gray

Others in khaki, and green then say
“We’re from Bull Run, Yorktown, the Maine

“The Newcomer said, “You died not in vain.”
From a man on sticks one could hear”The only thing we have to fear.
